Bringing the VMPS Community Together

Throughout the school year we hold special events for the families and children enrolled at VMPS, including our Fall and Spring Book Fairs, Halloween Costume Parade, Veterans Day Celebration, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Valentine's Day Parties, Holi Festival, and Mother's and Father's Day Events, among others.

We will communicate the timing and location of these events through our classroom communication tools and our social media pages.  We invite you to return to this page to check that event schedule or reference our 2024-2025 School Calendar.

AUGUST 2024 EVENTS

TEACHER WORK DAYS - Thursday, August 1st & Friday, August 2nd

• The entire school will be closed both days.

MEET THE TEACHER - Friday, August 2nd from 4:00 - 5:00 pm

• Come meet your new teacher and see your classroom!  If you can't make this date, you will also be able to meet your teacher and see your new classroom when you arrive at school the morning of Monday, August 5th!

FIRST DAY OF THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR - Thursday, August 8th

• We look forward to a new school year with you!

September 2024 Events

LABOR DAY HOLIDAY – Monday, September 2nd

• The entire school will be closed.
   

INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY & DRESS AS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK CHARACTER DAY - Friday, September 6th

• We will have a "bring a book or take a book" table in front of the main office for families to enjoy. All leftover books will be donated to classrooms. 
• Teachers will plan special activities for Sept 6th with their classes to celebrate books and reading.  
• Dress as your favorite book character day!  Please label all props or items from home that go with your child's costume.  As always, please no weapons or scary masks. Thank you!

OCTOBER 2024 EVENTs

FALL SCHOOL PICTURE DAYS - Dates to be Announced (weather pending)

• All students will be photographed solo and with their classes. A link to order photos will be provided to place orders. We will send communication home to families about which classes will take pictures on which days.

TEACHER WORK DAY – Monday, October 14th

• The entire school will be closed.
   

FALL SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR AT VMPS & FAMILY FUN FOOD TRUCK NIGHT - Dates to be Announced

• The in-person book fair will run at school for a week.  Afterward, books may be purchased online through our book fair website link. 
• Stay tuned for information about our Family Food Truck night, where you can shop the book fair and grab a wonderful dinner for your family at a TBD food truck!
• Keep an eye out for a volunteer sign-up list to help with the book fair!  
   

HALLOWEEN COSTUME PARADE & CLASS PARTIES - Thursday, October 31st

• Teachers will email information about Halloween events taking place in your classrooms.  We will once again do our paint a pumpkin classroom activity.  Stay tuned for details!

November 2024 Events

ELECTION DAY - Tuesday, November 5th

• School will close at 3pm to allow staff to vote. 

VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION - Monday, November 11th

• Our older classrooms will participate in a Flag Celebration and hear from a guest speaker.

THANKSGIVING CLASS PARTIES

• Teachers will email information about Thanksgiving events taking place in your classrooms.
   

THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY – Wednesday - Friday, November 27th - 29th

• School will close at 3pm on November 27th.
• The entire school will be closed November 28th - 29th.

• The entire school will be closed.
   

 NEW YEAR'S EVE & NEW YEAR'S DAY – Tuesday, December 31st & Wednesday, January 1st

• School will close at 3pm on December 31st.
• The entire school will be closed on January 1st.

JANUARY 2025 EVENTS

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY HOLIDAY - Monday, January 20th

• The entire school will be closed. 
• Throughout the month, students will participate in Martin Luther King Jr. Day lessons and classroom activities.

FEBRUARY 2025 EVENTS

VALENTINE'S DAY CLASS PARTIES

• Teachers will email information about Valentine's Day events taking place in your classrooms.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH

• Students will participate in Black History Month lessons and classroom activities.

PRESIDENT’S DAY HOLIDAY – Monday, February 17th

March 2025 Events

DRESS AS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK CHARACTER - Monday, March 3rd

• Dress as your favorite book character day in honor of Read Across America & Dr. Seuss' Birthday!  Please label all props or items from home that go with your child's costume.  As always, please no weapons or scary masks. Thank you.
